The darkness keeps its secrets enclosed, withdrawn, unspeakable

Donna Harraway

Beauty then, is a non-violent experience of near death, a warning that one is fragile, like everything else in the universe

Timothy Morton

My photographs depict wild, secret places where generative cycles of birth, decay, and death are observed and recorded.  They acknowledge the invaluableness of these mysterious worlds, with both their “unspeakable secretiveness of things”, and often uncanny beauty.  These are places of possible refuge and renewal for a planet whose overstressed, complex adaptive system is “now at the limit of its ability to absorb insult after insult”.

The images also record moments of encounter, when the light challenges the dark mystery, when beauty lifts from obscurity, and, for a moment, refuge for the planet and for ourselves, from the dark lure of progress, seems possible.
